Q. Do geas cards count towards your deck size minimum?
A. No. Like ruler cards, they are not part of your deck.
Q. When a 《4. D - Dreadnaught》with the 《Oath of the Unstoppable Advance》geas attacks, in what order does its “as this/your ruler attacks” abilities get played?
A. The controller of that ruler can play those abilities and put them into the gate in an order of their choice. Remember that the ability placed second into the gate will get resolved before the first one, so you should put the ability that you want resolved first into the gate after adding the other ability.
Q. When your ruler is 《21. U - United》, can you not play additional units if the combined total level of the unit you want to put into play and the allied units already in play is greater than 4?
A. You can put new units into play even if that would increase the total combined level of your units to greater than 4. If you do so, then starting with units that were already in play, you must choose 1 allied unit of level 1 or greater to put into its owner’s graveyard.
Repeat this process until your total combined level of allied units is equal to 4 or less.
This process takes place after the Overlapping Cards Rules Effect, so if resolving for overlapping cards reduces the total combined level of your allied units to 4 or less, then you don’t need to send any more allied units to the graveyard.
Q. When your ruler is 《21. U - United》, what happens when somehow the total combined level
of allied units becomes greater than 4 even without putting a new unit into play? What happens if you put 1 or more units into play which have a total combined level greater than 4 on their own?
A. In the former scenario, you select as many allied units of level 1 or greater and put them into their owner’s graveyard until the total combined level drops to 4 or less.
In the latter scenario, those units enter play first, then you would select pre-existing allied units to put into the graveyard until your total combined level drops to 4 or less. If all pre-existing allied units of level 1 or greater are gone but your total combined level is still higher than 4, then select a unit of level 1 or greater among the allied units that just entered play and put it into the graveyard. Repeat this process until your total combined level drops to 4 or less.
Q. When your ruler is 《21. U - United》, does setting a card through an effect like that of 《Space Journalist Krystel》 count towards your limit of setting up to 2 cards per turn?
A. No, it does not. Cards that are set by effects do not count towards your set cap, much like how special summons do not count towards your summon cap. Only when you set a card as a basic main phase action during your turn does it count towards your set cap (in the case of 《21. U - United》, you can do this action up to 2 times).
Q. If a Charge Bonus ability specifies 1 or more conditions, do they all have to be true for both “a unit that has this as 1 of its charges loses Charge Shield if it has 2 or more charges” portion and the “it has the following ability:” portion?
A. Yes. If the unit that has a charge with Charge Bonus does not fulfill the conditions specified by the ability, then the Charge Bonus is completely inactive, with the unit gaining neither of the listed abilities. In this case, it will not lose Charge Shield even if it has 2 or more charges.
Q. Is the “it has the following ability:” portion of a Charge Bonus ability only valid if the unit has 2 or more charges?
A. No. These are 2 separate abilities, and whether a unit gains the second ability has nothing to do with whether the first ability (“a unit that has this as 1 of its charges loses Charge Shield if it has 2 or more charges”) is active or not. A unit that has a charge with a Charge Bonus will gain the second ability as long as the unit fulfills the condition(s) specified by the Charge Bonus.
Q. If you are Geared Up with 《Luca Reihart, Swordsman of the Sacred Blade》, can you still use the Charge Bonus ability of a 《Flauri of the Yearning Heart》in the charge of an allied Warrior unit to reduce damage to you? What about if 《Flauri of the Yearning Heart》is a charge under the 《Luca Reihart, Swordsman of the Sacred Blade》 that you are Geared Up with?
(《Flauri of the Yearning Heart》’s Charge Bonus ability: “Instant Action: [Put 1 charge under this into the graveyard.] Reduce the next damage dealt to you by 1.”)
A. Yes, you can use the ability granted through 《Flauri of the Yearning Heart》’s Charge Bonus in either case. However, you can only use it against effect damage to your ruler, as combat damage will be dealt to the unit that is Geared Up. Also, please note that your Geared Up ruler does not count as a charge.
Q. While a 《Goldrein, Grand Dragon Pentarch of Starlight》has a {Dragon Lord} as one of its charges, can you put its charges into the graveyard with 《Skystrike Arrow》’s ability?
A. Yes, you can. While 《Goldrein, Grand Dragon Pentarch of Starlight》has a {Dragon Lord}
card as one of its charges is unaffected by an opponent’s effects, it can still be chosen as a target, and since its charges are not protected by its ability, those charges can be put into the graveyard with 《Skystrike Arrow》.
Q. Does 《Vagrost, Titan of Illumination》ability to “■Standard Action: [DR 3] Put 1 unit card from among this unit's charges into play.” count as special summoning a unit?
A. Yes, it does. Whenever a unit enters play by any means other than it itself being added to the gate and being resolved, it is treated as a special summon.
Q. When placing cards into the damage zone for the “Deathshade Advance” option of 《The Hidden Mythos》, if the total number of cards in your damage zone is equal to or greater than your ruler’s life value, do you lose?
A. No, you do not lose at that point. Determining if a player has lost is a system process, which is not performed while a card or ability is getting resolved. Once 《The Hidden Mythos》has finished resolving, if the player’s damage zone is still equal to or greater than their ruler’s life value, then the system process will kick in and cause them to lose.
Q. If you special summon 2 《Ray of the Twin Swords》with “Sigrún”, can you use Enhance on one of them to add the other as a charge under it?
A. No, you cannot. Enhance is an ability that triggers when a unit is about to enter play, and it requires another allied unit already in play. When 2 or more units enter play simultaneously, neither are treated as being in play when Enhance is triggered and resolved.
Q. During your main phase, if you put a 《Zahira, Nature's Emissary》from your hand into your graveyard to pay the cost of a 《Hades, God of the Chthonic Realm》’s “Lord of the Underworld” ability, can you special summon 《Zahira, Nature's Emissary》?
(《Hades, God of the Chthonic Realm》’s ability: “‘Lord of the Underworld’ - Turn 1 – Standard Action: [Put 1 of your cards in your hand or in play into the graveyard and DR 2: OWL] Choose 1 {OWL} unit of level 3 or less in your graveyard and special summon it.
(《Zahira, Nature's Emissary》’s special summon ability: “■When this is discarded from your hand during your main phase, you may special summon it.”).
A. No, you cannot. “Discard a card from your hand” and “put a card into a graveyard” are different actions, and 《Zahira, Nature's Emissary》’s ability is only triggered by the former.
Q. Can you use 《Hades, God of the Chthonic Realm》’s “Lord of the Underworld” ability to special summon an {OWL} unit that was put into the graveyard to pay the ability’s cost?
A. No. “Lord of the Underworld” requires you to choose a target as you play the ability. The card that you want to put into the graveyard to pay for this ability is not in the graveyard yet at this point (otherwise you couldn’t use it to pay the ability’s cost), so it cannot be chosen as the target.
Q. Can you special summon a 《Black Cat Sìth》from your graveyard using the “And I don't want to sleep alone” ability of your 《Lady Iuliana, Death's Little Flower》?
A. Yes you can, and you can do it for 0 cost. 《Black Cat Sìth》’s negative level will reduce the cost of the ability to DR 0. If the cost of something is reduced to 0 or less, it is treated as if the cost has already been paid.
Q. When you have an allied {OWL} unit in play and a 《Muse, Spirit of Inspiration》that was face down in your damage zone is sent to the graveyard, can you use the 《Muse, Spirit of Inspiration》’s “Come to me, my Muse!” ability?
A. Yes, you can use this ability. While face down cards in a damage zone are supposed to have no information at all, whenever a card would move from a zone that is hidden to 1 or more players to a zone that is revealed to all players, you refer to the card as it exists in the revealed zone. In this scenario, face down cards in a damage zone are hidden, while the graveyard is revealed, so when 《Muse, Spirit of Inspiration》is placed in the graveyard, it is treated as having all of its card text. At that point, it is fulfilling the conditions for its “Come to me, my Muse!” ability (it was placed into the graveyard from the damage zone & an allied {OWL} unit is in play), so the ability gets played.
Q. When using 《Bob the Striker》’s “Joint Operations” ability to put a card from your hand on top of your deck, do you have to reveal that card to your opponent?
A. No, you do not. Previously you did have to, since you were moving a card from one zone hidden to 1 or more players to another zone that is hidden to 1 or more players. But with version 1.5.0 of the rules, an exception has been made if you are putting a card on top of your deck, in which case it does not need to be revealed.
Q. If you have a 《Popo-chan of the Hachi-Shaku》in play, can your opponent place a unit with “■This cannot be placed in a defense zone” in their defense zone outside of their main phase? If so, what happens to that unit when the opponent’s main phase comes around or when 《Popo-chan of the Hachi-Shaku》 leaves play?
A. As long as 《Popo-chan of the Hachi-Shaku》’s ability to remove abilities of enemy units is in effect, your opponent can place a unit with “■This cannot be placed in a defense zone” in their defense zone, since that ability is lost as well. Even when 《Popo-chan of the Hachi-Shaku》’s ability becomes inactive afterwards, nothing will happen to this unit if it’s still in the defense zone. The “■This cannot be placed in a defense zone” restriction is only referred to when the unit enters play or when it is moved between zones, and it has no effect on a unit if it somehow finds itself in a defense zone. However, if such a unit leaves the defense zone from there, it cannot be placed back into that zone.
Q. If you have a 《Popo-chan of the Hachi-Shaku》in play and your opponent is Geared Up, what happens to the Geared Up cards outside of the opponent’s main phase?
A. They remain Geared Up, as being Geared Up is a state and not an ability. However, any Gear Abilities are lost. On the other hand, any ruler abilities they have remain unaffected.
Q. If an allied 《Alice, Wonderland's Champion 》has a 《A7 "Humpty Dumpty" the SentinelA7 "Humpty Dumpty" the Sentinel》as a charge and the opponent has a 《Popo-chan of the Hachi-Shaku》in play, does 《Alice, Wonderland’s Champion》have Charge Shield outside of your main phase?
A. No, it does not. Effects that remove abilities are applied after effects that grant abilities, hence the former will always overrule the latter. 《A7 "Humpty Dumpty" the SentinelA7 "Humpty Dumpty" the Sentinel》grants Charge Shield to your 《Alice, Wonderland’s Champion》, but the ability of your opponent’s 《Popo-chan of the Hachi-Shaku》to remove all of your units’ abilities outside of your main phase will then immediately get rid of it. Hence, your 《Alice, Wonderland's Champion 》will have no abilities during your opponent’s turn, including Charge Shield.
Q. If your opponent has a 《Popo-chan of the Hachi-Shaku》in play, can you normal summon a 《A7 "Cheshire" the Cat》 from your hand as an instant action during your opponent’s turn?
A. Yes, you can. 《A7 "Cheshire" the Cat》’s ability to be normal summoned as an instant action is not labeled as Sentinel Summoning, hence it is not restricted by 《Popo-chan of the Hachi-Shaku》’s ability that prevents Sentinel Summoning.
Q. When playing 《Yuzuka of the Worn Quiver》’s 【OD】ability, if the chosen unit in a defense zone is moved into an attack zone before the ability is resolved, does the chosen unit still get destroyed?
A. No, it does not. When resolving the ability, the game checks whether the chosen target is still valid. Since the target is no longer in a defense zone, it is now an invalid target, and the ability does nothing.
Q. After resolving 《Draconoid Dreadnaught "Tsuchi-Ikazuchi"》’s “Constriction” ability, can the unit chosen for this ability attack if the 《Draconoid Dreadnaught "Tsuchi-Ikazuchi"》has lost all of its abilities?
A. No, it cannot. The thing that is preventing this unit from attacking is an effect that was applied to it through the “Constriction” ability, not the ability itself. Now the effect exists independently of the ability that caused it, whether the 《Draconoid Dreadnaught "Tsuchi-Ikazuchi"》 has lost its abilities afterwards has no bearing.
Q. When resolving 《Aijiro of the Nekomata》’s 【CNT】ability, can you put 1 card on top of your deck and 1 card on the bottom?
A. No, you cannot. You must either put both cards back on top of your deck or both cards on the bottom of your deck.
Q. If the unit you selected as a cost for 《Yato-no-kami, the Serpent God》’s “Blood Barter” ability remains in play through Charge Shield, does that still count as having paid for the cost of the ability?
A. Yes, it does. If any action for paying a cost becomes substituted with a different action through a replacement effect like that of Charge Shield, it still counts as having done the action in terms of paying the cost.
Q. While your opponent has 《Lady Baigujing, Alluring Necromancer》in play, can you still play 《Skystrike Arrow》’s ability to choose and remove cards from their graveyard?
A. Yes, but it will be unable to actually remove any cards from the game. 《Lady Baigujing, Alluring Necromancer》’s ability does not prevent you from choosing cards in your opponent’s graveyard as targets, so 《Skystrike Arrow》’s ability can still be played, even if its effect will be ignored when being resolved.
Q. If you play 《The Space Race》’s ability that you can use while it’s in your graveyard, but that card is no longer in your graveyard when the ability gets resolved, does 《The Space Race》still get played?
A. No, it does not. Generally, whenever a card is moved from or to a zone outside of play, it is treated as a distinct card from when it existed in its previous zone. Hence, the particular card in the graveyard, which《The Space Race》’s ability referred to with “play this card”, no longer exists, so it will not get played.
Q. When resolving 《Devastation Star Crusher!!》’s Instant Action option, if the number of allied {Future Folk} units is different from when you played the card, what happens to the damage dealt by this card?
A. The damage remains the same value as when you played the card. Once the card is placed in the gate, its chosen target and the amount of damage it would deal is locked in, so changes to the number of allied {Future Folk} units after that have no bearing.
Q. When resolving 《Devastation Star Crusher!!》’s second option (“-Standard Action: Choose 1 card in play of a level equal to or less than the number of allied {Space Peeps} in play. Destroy it.”), if the number of allied {Space Peeps} cards in play is now less than the level of the chosen card, what happens?
A. The chosen card is not destroyed. When resolving a card or ability, the game checks whether the chosen target is still valid. In this case, since the chosen card is no longer a card that is “in play of a level equal to or less than the number of allied {Space Peeps} in play”, it is now an invalid target, and the card does nothing to it when resolved.
Q. When using 《Space Racer Levan》’s “Perfect Clairvoyance” ability, does the name of the card you declare have to be exactly correct?
A. As long as you and your opponent can agree on what specific card you are referring to, you do not have to say the exact name of the card you want to declare. For example, if 《Space Racer Levan》is the card you want to declare, you can say something like “The Wonderverse version of Levan that’s in Vol. 5”. If your opponent understands what you are referring to, then that will suffice.
Q. Does 《Uroboros, Gyre of Torment》’s effect that reduces “its cost by the number of allied Exader units in play” when normal summoning it from your hand stack with its Discount?
A. Yes. This effect will further reduce the cost of the card after the Discount has been applied.
Q. Can you choose a set card for 《Black Moon》’s “Corrupted Moonlight” ability?
A. No. When choosing a target that must fulfill 1 or more conditions, you must select it from among cards that have the relevant information revealed to you. Since the level of an opponent’s set card is not revealed to you, it does not fulfill the “level 2 or less” condition of “Corrupted Moonlight”, hence it cannot be chosen as a valid target.
Q. Is it possible to add 《Takaoni of the Deadly Chase》as a charge to an enemy card in play through its 【CNT】 ability? What about enemy set cards?
A. It is possible to add 《Takaoni of the Deadly Chase》to an enemy card in play through its【CNT】ability, so long as the chosen card does not have Charge Shield. However, a set card cannot have charges, so that would be an invalid target.
