The Day of Destiny
April, 2030CE.
The “Day of Destiny” had dawned upon the city of Tokyo. One impossibly giant sword and a horde of “Exvaders” suddenly appeared out of nowhere to attack the city.
For most, this event was already beyond their wildest imaginations. But it was only the beginning.
On one particular day in April, 2030CE, a colossal sword several miles long, far larger than what the laws of physics ought to allow, suddenly materialized in the sky above Tokyo. It heralded the arrival of an invasion force of “Exvaders”—short for “Extradimensional Invaders”. Their origins and nature were unknown, but there was little doubt that they were destroyers of entire worlds, and that our Earth was next.
As this unimaginable threat was poised to destroy the city, most people were frozen in shock and terror. However, there were those who instead sprang into action.
The Japanese Self Defense Force swiftly engaged the enemy with all it had, their brand new robotic “sky troopers” leading the charge. They bought precious time, allowing others to intervene to save the people of Tokyo.
From the rooftops of Tokyo’s skyscrapers, mages wielded their wands and created magical barriers to ward against Exvader attacks. Superheroes with various special powers, known as “ascendants”, rushed across the city to rescue civilians in distress. Cats suddenly stood up on their hind legs and began to talk, verbally guiding people to safety. Emerging from the dark shadows between buildings, the yokai—strange and quirky supernatural entities of Japanese tradition—also lent their aid in saving lives.
And those who halted the fall of the giant sword were the gate rulers, who revealed their existence to the world for the very first time. These individuals have special powers over time and space, allowing them to even open portals to other universes. Through their combined efforts, the gate rulers slowed the descent of the sword, causing it to land in the grounds of Yoyogi Park. Once there, they locked the sword in its current position, rendering it stationary and harmless.
