【Gate Ruler】 is set in the near future, where our world has been attacked by an extradimensional enemy known as the 【Exvaders】. Though their initial invasion was driven back, it was clear that they would soon return in force.
Fortunately for humanity, they are not alone in standing against this threat. Various nations have set aside their differences to form grand coalitions. Also joining them are supernatural beings of myth and legend, who have suddenly remerged into physical reality. Visitors from other universes such as 【Volnar】 and the 【Wonderverse】 have come to offer their aid as well. These joint forces prepare for the inevitable onslaught of the Exvader's full might.
The key factor in this coming conflict are 【gate rulers】, individuals with the power to materialize physical copies of warriors, weapons, and phenomena from thin air, through the use of special cards. Their ability to manipulate dimensions and space-time are critical in stopping the extra-dimensional Exvaders. Players will play as one of these gate rulers, preparing for the coming conflict through mock battles with each other.
The factions that a gate ruler can call upon include:
【ATLAS (ATLantic Alliance Sentinels)】: This is alliance between major Western powers and the 【Ark】, a giant, extradimensional craft constructed from a dislodged continent. The Ark is crewed by refugees of other universes that were destroyed by the Exvaders. Supporting this alliance is the 【OWL (Old World League)】, a coalition of supernatural beings from Western tradition, such as vampires and werewolves. Since many of them rely on humans for sustenance, the extinction of humanity at the hands of the Exvaders would be against their interests. The primary strength of ATLAS lies in their incredible firepower, provided by state-of-the-art military arsenal.
Among the crew of the Ark is the 【Zoo Brigade】, a group of animal-like humanoids that have extensively upgraded their bodies with cybernetic enhancements. Led by their fearless leader 【Sergeant Major Buster Kong】, they seek nothing else than to avenge their destroyed homeworld.
【Yomajin Front】: A coalition between various nations of East Asia, such as Japan and China, along with their supernatural allies such as the 【yokai】. Their military technology is just as advanced as ATLAS, but they have a lot more experimental weapons that incorporate magic.
The remergence of yokai, supernatural entities of Asian tradition, caught many governments in the region by surprise. However, Japan was able to adjust quickly, granting their yokai full Japanese citizenship in no time. Many of them returned the favor by offering to join the fight against the Exvaders.
Tokyo is where the initial invasion by the Exvaders occurred, as marked by a giant sword that appeared from nowhere and lodged itself in the middle of the city. Even after the initial attack, the area is frequently plagued by Exvader raids, slipping in through small dimensional breaches. However, fighting these incursions have allowed the Yomajin Front to test their new weaponry in actual combat, further accelerating their development.
【Volnar】: A universe straight out of traditional fantasy, the lands of Volnar are populated by familiar races and creatures, such as elves, minotaurs, and dragons. Wars here are fought by swords and magic, the latter of which can rival Earth's most advanced weapons in terms of destructive power.
Some of the most powerful entities in Volnar are the 【Grand Dragon Pentarchs】, five god-like dragons of unrivaled might. 【Magvarius, Grand Dragon Pentarch of Inferno】, is one of their number.
The Pentarchs are opposed by the equally powerful 【Fell Dragon Quadrarchs】. One of the four, 【Vastorus Rex】, is working with unscrupulous individuals of Earth to gain even greater power for himself.
【Wonderverse】: A universe that resembles the sci-fi future imagined in our past, the Wonderverse is populated by intrepid explorers and strange aliens. The laws of physics here are quite malleable, allowing people to travel lightyears in a matter of months just because they believe they can.
Most aliens here are friendly, but not all of them are well-behaved. The 【Crimenauts】 criminal syndicate, led by their don 【Malevolus Prime】, are constantly scheming to take over the universe through petty criminal acts. One of their goals is to find the greatest of the Cosmic Relics, the fabled 【Galactic Grail】. However, their attempts so far have been repeatedly foiled by the artifact's protector, the mysterious 【Space King Arthur】!
【Exvaders】: The term is an abbreviation of 【"extra-dimensional invaders"】. Currently, not much is known about them, except that they have traveled through numerous different universes, leaving all of them utterly devastated in their wake. The nations of Earth have sent multiple diplomatic missions to the Exvaders, hoping to establish some kind of communication. However, each one has been ruthlessly massacred without exception. Their next target is our own universe, and the only thing that can stop them are 【gate rulers】 and their allies.
